Loco Pilot assists the drivers who are piloting the train. He acts as a guide to the driver according to the signal lights coming in the journey. The moment any signal is sighted Loco Pilot the alter for the same will be given to the driver. He will also look after minor repairs of the train and helps in the fine tuning.

The promotion of an Assistant Loco Pilot will be as Senior Assistant Loco Pilot in the first level and further he can appear in any of the departmental exam for Power Controller, Crew Controller, Loco Foreman (Loco supervisor).
